Tanzania, today. Three young people grow up here: Karim, who returns to his sleepy hometown of Dar es Salaam after his studies with ambition and big ideas. Fauzia, who sees in Karim not only her beloved partner, but also the chance to escape an overly sheltered childhood. Badar, a penniless boy who finds friends in Fauzia and Karim and receives help from them, although it is not clear what and whether the future has anything in store for him at all. When progress and tourism find their way into their remote corner of the world, each of the three takes fate into their own hands. In his search for success, happiness and meaning, Badar in particular struggles with the long shadows of theft.
