Why now

Censorship. Enforced scarcity. Class war waged through economic policy. Editorial autonomy is not just under threat—it is being systematically penalised. Publishing cannot survive on will alone. Precarity and coercion have long been tools of control, pushing small organisations into choices that quietly shape content and constrain action. The establishment has always suppressed critical voices, but that pressure is now more visible, more organised, and increasingly oppressive. The penalty for refusal is growing steeper.

In this moment, we as Archive Ensemble seek to disentangle ourselves from funding structures that demand our silence and instead strengthen our efforts across our networks of friends, collaborators, and circles of shared imagined futures. We take seriously the privileges, precarities, and conditions that arise from our work in the cultural sphere and from our partial operation within the Western world. Given these realities, we take our responsibility and the urgency seriously, leveraging our location and position to cultivate alternative systems and infrastructure for our work and that of our communities. We are dedicated to amplifying voices that propose alternative models and to scrutinising the mounting silencing of dissenting views.

What is Archive Kin

Archive Kin is a community of supporters who join us in defending the conditions that make our work possible—in all its forms and in all places—so that we may retain the ability to stand our ground and stay true to our programme.

With a yearly contribution of €500, Kin receive:

— Five titles of your choice from Archive Books’ catalogue. Simply let us know which titles you would like, and we will send them to you.

— 30% off everything at Archive Souq, both in the bookstore in Berlin and online. We will provide a code that can be used year-round.

— A limited artist edition, produced exclusively for Archive Kin and not available elsewhere.
