Hechura de (infra)mundos (Under) worldmaking

Hechura de (infra)mundos is a publication about the latest audiovisual projects (2017–2024) by the artist Naomi Rincón-Gallardo, made up of narrative and sensitive assemblages that give shape to underworlds in underground cavities. The hybrid characters who inhabit them—with feminine, masculine, animal, and plant traits—cry out for a bonding that affirms their re-existence and desire.

Driven by that same drive, the authors who accompany us on the descent propose strategies such as invocation, counter-narrative, excess, chimerical dialogues, song and queer friendship to immerse us in their unsubmissive temporality and the porous and baroque make-up of these (infra)worlds. In these journeys there is no moral, but the persistence of the dead as active agents, with whom we sustain and make the world, in a territory haunted by the expansion of necropower.
