Seeing with a Listening Ear - Layers of feedback

Seeing with a Listening Ear—Layers of Feedback” is a curated investigation by Abrie Fourie and Stefanie Kulisch. This project was realised in collaboration with the artists Muhammad Salah Abdulaziz, Dorothee Albrecht, Akinbode Akinbiyi, Adam Broomberg, Franziska Anastasia Lentes, Tsepo Kolitsoe Pooe, Anja Saleh and Ella Ziegler. Leopoldplatz reflects the evolving character of Wedding and serves as a microcosm of Berlin’s cultural diversity. “Seeing with a Listening Ear— Layers of Feedback” acted as a visual score that balanced silence with participation. The project orchestrated Leopoldplatz’s dissonance into harmony, reframing art as dialogue. It proved that listening—like musical training—unlocked deeper seeing, a radical act of composing belonging from noise. The two-month investigation included interviews, recipe exchanges, tea drinking, poetry, analogue photography, video, field recordings, and sonic intervention. The materials and information gathered during this period served as the basis for the participatory exploration, and this publication represents a snapshot of the findings. „Mit offenen Ohren sehen – Feedback in verschiedenen Schichten“ ist eine kuratierte Untersuchung von Abrie Fourie und Stefanie Kulisch. Dieses Projekt entstand in Zusammenarbeit mit den Künstler*innen Muhammad Salah Abdulaziz, Dorothee Albrecht, Akinbode Akinbiyi, Adam Broomberg, Franziska Anastasia Lentes, Tsepo Kolitsoe Pooe, Anja Saleh und Ella Ziegler. Der Leopoldplatz spiegelt den sich entwickelnden Charakter des Weddings wider und dient als Mikrokosmos der kulturellen Vielfalt Berlins. „Mit offenen Ohren sehen – Feedback in verschiedenen Schichten“ fungierte als visuelle Partitur, die Stille und Partizipation in Einklang brachte. Das Projekt verwandelte die Dissonanz des Leopoldplatzes in Harmonie und gestaltete Kunst als Dialog neu. Es bewies, dass Zuhören – wie musikalisches Training – ein tieferes Sehen ermöglicht, ein radikaler Akt des Komponierens von Zugehörigkeit aus Lärm. Die zweimonatige Untersuchung umfasste Interviews, den Austausch von Rezepten, Teetrinken, Poesie, analoge Fotografie, Video, Feldaufnahmen und akustische Interventionen. Die in diesem Zeitraum gesammelten Materialien und Informationen dienten als Grundlage für die partizipative Erkundung, und diese Publikation stellt eine Momentaufnahme der Ergebnisse dar.
